Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Shah is a leading voice in the realms of Islamic scholarship and academia. As an accomplished theologian, thinker, historian, jurist, and leader, he seamlessly integrates traditional Islamic heritage with contemporary knowledge, making him an influential Muslim voice both in the Muslim and Western world.

Currently serving as the Executive Director and Secretary General of the Fiqh Council of North America and serving as the Director of Religious Affairs at The Islamic Association of Greater Detroit (IAGD), Dr. Shah’s academic and religious credentials are profound. Embarking on his educational journey by memorizing the Quran and receiving pre-medical education, he further pursued advanced degrees from the International Islamic University in Islamabad, Pakistan (IIUI). Here, he attained a B.A. (Hons) in Usul-ud-Din and an M.A. (Hons) in Islamic Studies, specializing in Comparative Religions. His education at IIUI was enriched by interactions with eminent scholars from globally renowned universities including al Azhar, Dar al Ulum, Umm al Qura, and institutions from Qatar, Jordan, and beyond. Moreover, his academic engagements extended to professors from illustrious institutions such as Temple, Oxford, Cambridge, and London Universities. Dr. Shah’s pursuit of knowledge further culminated in a Ph.D. in Theology and Religious Studies from the University of Wales, U.K.

His global academic footprints encompass teaching stints at several universities, ranging from the International Islamic University in Islamabad, the University of Wales, the University of North Florida, to St. Thomas University and Cardinal Stritch University. Beyond academia, he has helmed major Islamic organizations in North America, such as the Shari’ah Scholars Association of North America (SSANA) and the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), serving as President.
